In 2022, Courtenay Miller returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the Howard University swimming & diving program.

Since his return, Miller remains committed to the University’s mission of leadership and service, using his platform to mentor student-athletes and promote diversity and inclusion within aquatic sports. His contributions continue to elevate the program and honor the rich tradition of Howard Swimming and Diving.

Additionally, Miller has played a pivotal role in developing the team’s technical skills and fostering a culture of perseverance and pride. His Chicago roots and lived experiences allow him to connect with student-athletes on a personal level, inspiring them to rise above challenges and excel both in and out of the pool. Since his tenure, the team has seen unprecedented success, including:

  • Achieving its best season-ending records in nearly 30 years.
  • Competing on the national stage at the National Invitational Championship.
  • Producing NCAA Diving Championship Athletes
  • Three NEC Men's Championships (2023, 2025 & 2026)
  • 2026 NEC Women's Championship (first in program history)


As a student-athlete at Howard, Miller, a proud Chicago native, competed with passion and precision, earning recognition for his athleticism and dedication to the sport. His time as a Bison instilled in him a commitment to excellence, discipline, and teamwork—values he now passes on to the next generation of Howard swimmers and divers.
