@HUTrackandField Shows Impressive Outing at the Raleigh Relays

Several Bison finished in the top 10

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 31, 2018) – Director of Track & Field David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Track & Field team displayed an impressive outing at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The two-day event (March 30-31) took place at the Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, N.C.

Overall, HU recorded nine top 10 finishes throughout the event.

On the women's side, sophomore Uchechi Onuoha and freshman Jessika Gbai each had two top 10 performances individually.

Onuoha took third in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a 14.26 mark while taking 10th overall in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.44). Both performances were worthy of a spot at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in May.

For Gbai, the Philadelphia native placed fourth in the women's 200-meter after clocking in at 24.69. She also registered fifth in the 100-meter race, timing in at 11.97. Like Onuoha, both accomplishments earned a spot in the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

Onuoha and Gbai, alongside junior Aliyah Hale and sophomore Sydney Benson, competed in the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay (SMR) where they finished third overall after posting a 4:01.09 time.

Benson, Hale, Onuoha, and newcomer Ozoma Scott took fifth in the women's 4x400 relay (3:47.94) where they secured a slot in the IC4A/ECAC Championships.

For the men, juniors Korey Lombard and Kenneth Chigbue each claimed a position at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in the 200-meter. Lombard and Chigbue finished 10th and 11th, respectively, and were separated by only two-hundredths of a second.

Chigbue and Lombard joined senior Mohamed Bah and freshman Mekhi Closson in the men's 4x400 relay where they took ninth overall (3:18. 91).

In the men's field competition, senior Milan Bullock jumped 6'4.75" (1.95 meters) in the men's high jump, which placed him ninth.
