WASHINGTON (January 19, 2018) – Howard University Women's Tennis team battled, but came up short in its season opener against the Harvard Crimson, 7-0, at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus.
Before the contest, Coach
Larry Strickland and the Bison entered shorthanded due to illnesses and injuries; thus, forfeiting matches in singles and doubles competitions.
In doubles play, the Crimson won both matches by identical scores 6-2.
In singles competition, freshman
Nathalie Finch served as the squad's No. 1 where she lost in straight sets against Harvard's Jenna Friedel (6-2, 6-4).
Junior
Kindha Nasef moved into the No. 2 spot where she dropped her match in two sets (6-2, 6-2).
Newcomer
Aria Ragas fell in straight sets versus the Crimson's Neha Gupta (6-1, 6-3).
Howard continues its home stretch with a pair of matches against Delaware State (Feb. 2) and Loyola (Feb. 3). Both contests begin at noon.
