ATHENS, Ga. (December 19, 2017) – Howard University Women's Basketball team continued its road swing in Athens, Ga. where they fell to the Georgia (UGA) Bulldogs, 87-47.
HU (3-7) was unable to get into a rhythm, shooting only 29-percent (15-of-52) from the floor. Despite the subpar shooting, nine different Bison scored in the contest.
Sophomore
Ayonna Williams led Howard in scoring for the third consecutive game, finishing with 14 points, seven boards (team-high), two assists, and two steals.
After a close first quarter in favor of the Bulldogs, 14-11, Georgia busted out the gate in the second period and outscored HU 29-10. UGA held a commanding 43-21 at the break.
Georgia kept the pressure on as they held HU to single-digits in the third quarter. In the fourth, Howard got into a rhythm and finished the game drilling four trey balls while outscoring the Bulldogs, 18-16.
For Georgia (10-1), they shot 52-percent (35-of-68) from the field, including 60-percent (9-of-15) from downtown. Off the bench, Maya Caldwell registered game-best 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting while Malury Bates added 11 points in the victory.
Thursday (Dec. 21), HU concludes the road trip in Macon, Ga. where the Mercer Bears await. Game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can follow all the action via live stats and ESPN3.
