NORFOLK, Va. (November 5, 2017) – Howard University Women's Volleyball team swept rival Hampton in straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-11). With the win, HU also swept the season series, 2-0.
Senior Khaila Donaldson, MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, had a match-high eight kills, five digs, five blocks, and two service aces. Fellow classmate Jessica Young added seven kills and a block in the victory.
Both squads struggled out the gate, hitting under .150. Howard registered 10 kills in set one whereas Hampton had 10 attacking errors.
In set two, the Bison eclipsed a .360 hitting percentage while committing only one attack error.
After intermission, HU recorded a match-best .375 hitting percentage and cruised to a three-set victory.
Junior Tamia Dockery recorded a team-best 20 assists, four digs, three kills, and two blocks. Defensively, senior Carlise Cardoza provided nine digs in the win.
For Hampton (10-16, 5-5 MEAC), they committed 32 attack errors while producing a -.039 hitting percentage. Reenna Richardson led the Lady Pirates with a match-high eight kills while Lena Reed-Petracek posted 21 assists and seven digs in a losing effort.
Howard (13-14, 9-2 MEAC) ends the regular season with Morgan State on Senior Night. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium.
