WASHINGTON D.C --- Howard guard James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III will be out with an ankle sprain for the next four-six weeks. The reigning MEAC Player of the Year and 2016-17 Pre-season Player of the Year, recently injured his left ankle in practice.
"It is very unfortunate that J-Byrd got this injury," lamented Howard head coach Kevin Nickelberry. "The timing is bad. He worked so hard in the offseason to prepare for this, his last season. I am confident, knowing him the way that I do, that he will work just as hard to get back on the floor again and help us in our quest for a championship. In the meantime, we will have to have people step up and pick up the slack and I am confident that they will."
Daniel led all scorers in the nation with over 27 points per game. The 5-11 senior from Hampton, VA, also led all Division 1 players in free throws made and attempted and was fourth in total points and 5th in total field goals.
The talented guard has already broken several Bison season and career records and figures to break more.
The talented guard from Phoebus High School, is now Howard's all-time leading scorer with 1,899 points. He trails Tom Davis of Delaware State as the all-time leading scorer in MEAC history with 2,275 from 1987-91.
