HUNTSVILLE, AL --- The Howard women's soccer team began its quest to repeat as Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament champions with a 2-0 victory over the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff Golden Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at the John Hunt Soccer Complex.

The Bison advance to face regular season champion and top seed Mississippi Valley State tomorrow (November 6) at 2 p.m.

In a opening-round matchup that was as eventually played as its No.4 vs No. 5 seeding would suggest (Howard edged UAPB in shots and corner kicks by one each), the difference was the Bison's ability to capitalize on their chances.

Freshmen midfielder Anna Mitchell put Howard (12-7-1) on the board in the 16th minute after taking a pass from senior forward Rasheeda Ansari from the right end line and putting it past UAPB goalkeeper Makayla Cowles of UAPB (7-10-1). Freshman forward Makela Davidson came off the bench and headed home an insurance goal in the 80th minute off an assist from freshman forward Jasmin Miller.

Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Diotte was solid in net for the Bison, sending away seven shots on the day.
